Midwife-Midlife 2.0

Pursuing Arts straight out of high-school was my outlet of self expression oil painting is my areas of personal interest. Unsure of a career path I was affirmative obtaining a Degree was my objective.
While undertaking my Arts Diploma I was guided towards the idea of becoming a Graphic Designer because of the way I would pre plan my painting concepts in Photoshop. Leading me towards the Bachelor of Design getting accepted off my portfolio containing pre painting edits and concept designs as well as finished paintings.

My interest in the medical profession started during the final year of University mid 2013 during my final year I found myself very ill with what ended up being Kidney Stones. Due to being misdiagnosed several times I ended up spending over a month admitted to three different hospitals, during the course of this period I documented my experiences, medications given, general feelings and encounters. Finding myself immersed in the whole process and procedures of the hospital environment

Working full-time post University I became friends with a colleague who was studying midwifery, initially sparking my interest in this particular field. I’ve never had a problem with blood nor squeamish, I’m currently nursing my dog through diabetes, insulin injections and monitoring glucose levels – learning through life experience.

I applied for 2020 intake after being made redundant during Covid-19 writing about becoming a midwife – midlife going after a career change at 30. After being accepted I ultimately decided to pursue having my own children first which fills in the last five years of my timeline. A four year old and two year old girl, both natural births and experiencing preclampsia only furthered my interest in midwifery.

Reaching for a more fulfilling future for myself outside of the family home, drive, reward, to hold a space for myself, not let my desires pass me by, to show my daughters life doesn’t stop once you become a mother, it begins.
