1) General Statement
Explain why you are applying for tertiary study and without being course specific, what your current field of interest is and/or future employment goals you have.
I am applying to study again after further deliberation the timing feels right to pursue a new career in a field I’ve been interested in for many years, since finishing my original University studies. In the build up to graduating High School my primary interest was always the Arts, painting and creating visually stimulating physical objects, at this point I couldn’t see myself pursuing anything else. It’s hard to make all your life decisions at the tender age of eighteen, I feel at this point most of us follow our dominate hobby without being influenced by other peoples opinions.
I am aware a career change at this point may seem too late to some people but I have given it some years and still haven’t been able to shake the idea. My focus is to build a more full filling future for myself, to undertake a career with more passion and reward, also giving back to the community around me in times of need.
Whilst still very passionate about my current field Arts/Design/Print Media I have no intension of disregarding or abandoning the knowledge I’ve obtained over the years as my creativity and expertise will take me forward.
Currently working four days a week for a greeting card company as a creative assistant with photoshoots and photo editing I’m also designing and producing print media under my own ABN and trade account in small portions. My future employment goal is to continue this personal venture on a casual basis whilst studying for the future path choice stated.

Motivation for undertaking this course:
The reproduction of human life is the beginning of everything for everyone, there’s no escaping the experience wether you remember it or not. It’s an important job to be involved in, I’ve consecutively wanted to follow the path of become a midwife for several years now but continuously reminded myself it’s probably too late to start studying again. I’d already chosen a career path to follow, not to mention the extra university debts and responsibilities of living an adult life, I’d considered everything. Making a deal with myself, if I still wanted to achieve this change by the time I’m thirty, if I still had a strong enough desire I’d take the opportunity..
Already questioning the importance of my job in society, we started dropping like flies come March – One day you’re an essential worker and the next you’re only needed for a couple of hours a day these circumstances earlier on pushed me back into the mindset of return study. Working the circumstances in my favour taking this worldly change of events as a sign to start fresh. Who decided we have to stick to the one profession our entire life?
I’m good with blood, bodily fluids and controlling my emotions, I have a deep general interest in the inner workings of the human body. I myself was named after my mother’s midwife, other than the event of birth I’ve had a couple of significant life experience based around the hospital environment. Seven years ago when my right kidney stopped functioning properly, my pee was mud brown and I’d thought my appendix exploded. I spent the better half of a month in and out of hospital admission transfers from Werribee to Sunshine and eventually onto a speciality kidney Doctor at Footscray Hospital. Miss diagnosis’s, morphine, catheters, cannulas, peeing blood and needles in the backside on a daily bases, I didn’t know what pain really was before this experience. What ultimately started out as a couple kidney stones miss sighted in an ultrasound to be later identified in an X-Ray turning into two operations due to over inflammation, stent insertion and postponed stone removal. A later body rejection to the surgical stent and gaining of wider knowledge about the nursing process and how important these type of jobs are to the entire population. The medical field is highly important to human existence and I want to be apart of the bigger picture.
I do not have the sense of fulfilment in my chosen career path and find myself just going through the motions of repetition, the feeling of not contributing or giving back to the world in a meaningful way. I do not entirely regret the choices I made as I will always paint and enjoy designing and any creative freelance work. Having said that if I was to be finishing high-school at this age, knowing what I know now, matured through life experiences I’d have made different decisions the first being a future in Midwifery, thinking with a mixture of head and heart the younger version of myself wouldn’t have been ready to take on such responsibility. I have no hesitations about being a mature age student, I know exactly what I want for my future and I’m willing and able to work hard to get it. Some people go through their entire lives not knowing what they really want or not being willing to put themselves on the line to achieve it and I don’t want to look back any further and be one of them.
