Late November 21st about 11:15 pm I experienced a crackling sensation at 40+4 weeks pregnant unlike the experience of my first birth which felt like a water ballon pop, this one was a slow leak. Well aware what I was in for the second time around I didn’t panic, instead messaging my husband to get me a towel, put it under myself and went to sleep for the night slowly leaking amniotic fluid. Early in the morning we organised for his mother to come look after our youngest as we left for the Hospital by 7:00am Ill prepared on the arrival location as we had been induced the first time we naively arrived to the emergency entrance on the opposite side of the building, had to get wheeled over to the other side, admitted and was left in a waiting room my husband proceeded to order Uber Eats McDonalds as we sat back and waited for the sample approval that my waters had in fact broken. I was very calm at this stage, so calm they weren’t convinced I was in labor. My Girlfriend coincidently messaged to see how I was getting on, upon giving her the updated scenario she was able to make it down as things had just began to start heating up and my pants suddenly became too tight to keep on, my rage was on the build as I hadn’t been placed in the birthing suit yet therefore there was no gas link to get ahold of and the pain was starting to become real, really quickly.
We made it over to the birthing room and I dove over to the Gas, on the first inhale I proceeded to throw up McDonalds all over my socks. A hard memory to forget. Everything from there on was pretty straightforward pushing, breathing, squeezing, sweating and calling everyone out for pissing me off for about five hours straight. My Girlfriend on one side with a wet towel and my husband on the other, i believe they both had to help hold my legs at this point, I could feel the babies head pushing very tightly and would refuse to push any harder as I didn’t want to tear. I remember leaking a lot more fluid, consistency throughout the labour this time around. The Doctor came to the conclusion of cutting the opening to which I had to verbally consent, this process started with a numbing needle in the area, the cutting part I do not recall. I was cut off from the gas at the later stages of pushing, a suction cap was used as with my first birth and there she was in time for a late lunch at 1:13pm which consisted of all dairy products that were retrieved from the cafeteria for me an iced coffee, vanilla slice and carbonara I ate all of it and I can confirm ‘the first poop’ wasn’t an issue, getting to the toilet on time was.
I lay for what felt like a lifetime getting all sewn up while the baby was getting checked over and wrapped up for first cuddles. First shower in the labor room, a little photoshoot at the window outside the room then walked myself to the suit, I stayed the night by myself as I was worried my firstborn would struggle without us both, spent the night listening to the suckle sounds of a silicon dummy, in the morning when big sister came to visit, she wasn’t happy, didn’t want to see the new baby and didn’t want to see mum either. She said ‘Nanny lets go home’ I think if i was to have another child I would greet the first before letting them see you with the baby. I spend the first day home trying to fight off breastfeeding two kids at the same time before throwing in the towel and saying ‘thats it the milk is for the baby now’ which actually went down very smoothly. Without any medical issues during this pregnancy everything went pretty textbook, we were in and out within 24 hours.
